NEWSLETTER 2.8.21 - THEME: Changing Perspective

Happy Monday creatures of existence,

(GO BACK AND PUT SOMETHING ABOUT THE SUPER BOWL)

As you may have noticed, the email subject changed a bit. I want to start each week off with a theme to guide my thoughts, actions, and reactions; I hope you all will join me, or at least give it some thought, I think it could be quite beneficial.

QUOTE OF THE WEEK:

"For the meaning of life differs from man to man, from day to day and hour to hour. What matters, therefore, is not the meaning of life in general but rather the specific meaning of a person's life at a given moment." - Viktor Frankl, Man's Search for Meaning

This particular quote adheres to the theme of the week, and it comes from the book I am currently reading. We, myself included, often become so steadfast to looking far ahead into the future and often let the present moments pass us. That is why I think it is SO important to have short-term AND long-term goals. We become so obsessed on figuring out why we are here on earth and what the meaning of life is that we fail to realize that our greater meaning is found in by finding meaning daily, and hourly. Focus on the task at hand, and the blocks will start to stack up.

A VIDEO WORTH WATCHING:

What Would Elon Musk Work On If He Were 22? - The first 47 seconds are all you really need to see. In light of turning 22 this past week, I found this first bit of advice Elon would give to himself at 22 to be simple, concise, and impactful.

A PODCAST WORTH LISTENING TO:

I listened to this while walking my dog the other day (it's only about 12 minutes) and it too goes along with the theme of changing perspective. No matter what age, my guy Gary gives tremendous insight on the importance of passion, content, optimism, practicality, and patience. Highly recommend.

GENERAL LIFE UPDATE:

I officially began studying to become a certified personal trainer this past week. While I am taking a semester off from school, it is critical that I keep learning- as being a lifelong learner is what we should all aspire to be, if anything. I decided to do this because for one I spend a good chunk of my free time researching and learning about nutrition, health and wellness, exercise, etc. and it also will allow me to help others. More updated on this journey to come!

Before I turned 22 this past Wednesday, I wrote down 21 things I know to be true on my last day of being 21. While I do want to keep most of these private for now, I will share three that I think can be beneficial to all:

  1. There is never going to be a "right" time to do something
  2. There will always be people who question you, doubt you, or belittle you
  3. Don't sacrifice what you want in the future for something you want right now

IF YOU HAVE TROUBLE FALLING ASLEEP/STAYING ASLEEP TRY THIS:

A few months ago, I could not sleep at night without taking 4 tablets of advil and a bunch of melatonin because my back pain was so bad. This, on top of the stress of quarantine and life in general made for lots of restless nights. Here are some things I do throughout the day and in the last hour before bed that have had me sleeping better than I can ever remember:

  1. Wake up early
  2. eat more whole foods- our bodies become all out of whack when we try to fuel it with processed crap
  3. implement a 30-45 minute nap in the afternoon- studies have shown that it can put you in a better mood and improve your memory. This short amount of time napping can also improve symptoms of fatigue such as irritability, low motivation, and sleepiness
  4. exercise for at least 30 minutes daily- even if it is just taking a walk
  5. develop an evening routine- start to wind down an hour before you want to go to bed. Things that this includes for me is drinking a cup of SleepyTime Tea, 10 minutes of journaling, a few minutes of stretching, and reading nonfiction or watching something that won't have my brain firing off thoughts and keeping me up all night.

This will obviously be different for everyone, but it has been incredibly helpful for me.

Happy Monday all! Writing this newsletter is quickly becoming one of the best parts of my week, so thank you for being a part of it! I realized that last week's newsletter was relatively long, so I will be more intentional with my words going forward. My goal is for this to be about a 5-minute read. The theme for this week is consistency because, without it, nothing great can be achieved. A QUOTE "I accumulated small but consistent habits that ultimately led to results that were unimaginable...

Happy February you beautiful people you! I hope that the first month of 2021 was fantastic and wishing you all sustained growth as we trudge on into February. Life update: Yes, that title is correct. I have decided to take this semester off from school and graduate in December, rather than in May. And let me tell you, I have never felt happier or more inspired in my life. Why am I doing this, you ask? A few reasons, 1. I missed my entire Sophomore season of football due to a torn ACL, as well...

Happy Monday beautiful people, Today's memo is going to brief, as I just want to discuss something on my mind that I imagine many of you deal with as well. "Am I doing enough?" This is a question that pops into my head daily, then anxiety creeps in. "I should be doing..." "Look at this person they're doing..." "Maybe if I could just do this then..." I am here to tell you to take a deep breath, relax, and know that life has a way of working itself out. This is not to be substituted with a lack...
